Healthy Eating on a Budget

Written by Amy Simmons

A common excuse for many people that do not eat healthy is that it is too expensive. However this is not true! You do not need to buy the most expensive products on the market in order to eat a nutritious and healthy diet. It is possible to save money AND eat heathy!

Start by making weekly grocery lists and sticking to them! Plan what meals you will make for the week and shop accordingly. That way you know what you are buying will go to use. Speaking of cooking, make time for it! Eating out is much more expensive than cooking at home. If you don’t want to cook each night, plan a day over the weekend to cook your meals ahead of time. Make sure you put your leftovers to use! Throwing leftover food away is throwing away money! Eat them for lunch the next day. Don’t feel like eating the same thing? Mix it up! If you have grilled chicken for dinner cut it up and put it in a salad, or make a grilled chicken sandwich with tomato and spinach. Here are some cheap and healthy foods to add to your next shopping list: whole grain pasta, brown rice, canned tuna, oatmeal, cottage cheese, chicken breast, eggs, fruits, and veggies. You don’t have to buy the big brands to eat healthy either! Most generic products are the same quality as the well known brands, but so much cheaper and just as healthy!

Don’t let “I can’t afford to eat healthy” be your excuse any longer!
